Income Approach's fourth win at Summerside

SUMMERSIDE, PE – The winning streak continues for Income Approach after an action-packed day of Joe O’Brien Stake harness racing on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 25) at Red Shores Summerside Raceway.

The program featured the Joe O’Brien Memorial Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts and the Lady Slipper Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies, with a total of $171,075 in purses up for grabs.

Income Approach extended his win streak to four in the $22,200 O’Brien Gold division for rookie colts, driven by Marc Campbell for owner-trainer Rachael MacDonald of Trenton, N.S. Heavy favourite Malevolent, driven by Paul Langille, broke stride while leading and finished fourth, ending his undefeated run at three straight wins. Rosetown Eclipse (Corey MacPherson) finished second, followed by Windemere Joel (David Dowling) in third.

The other $22,200 O’Brien Gold division saw One Wicked Man (Kenny Arsenault) clock a 1:57 win for owner James Perrot of Stratford, defeating Prince Malicious (Jason Hughes) and Sergeant Crowley (Myles Heffernan Sr.).

In the $11,100 Joe O’Brien Grassroots divisions, Flamin Fredy (Campbell) took the win in 1:59.2 for trainer George Rennison, Abiding Art secured victory in 1:59, giving trainer-driver Arsenault a double on the day, and Bettim Alive (Ken Murphy) won in 1:58.4 for trainer Joe Baxter.

In the $20,750 Lady Slipper Gold division for two-year-old pacing fillies, Saulsbrook Inferno (Dowling) claimed victory, defeating race favourite Woodmere Flojo (Adam Merner), whose win streak was snapped at three. Saulsbrook Inferno, trained by Earl Watts and now riding a three-race win streak, is owned by Windemere Farms, Hollis Newson, Sterling Buchanan, and Jack Quinn. Lorne Valley Liv (Heffernan) finished third.

Tobins Dream captured the other $20,750 Lady Slipper Gold division at 10-1 odds with driver Campbell, trainer Kevin MacLean, and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. Jafetica (Heffernan) took second, with Talldarklatte (Brodie MacPhee) completing the $553.10 triactor.

The $10,375 Lady Slipper Grassroots divisions saw wins by Red Dirt Rock It in 1:58.3 for trainer-driver Mike McGuigan, Elm Grove Talia in 2:00.1 for trainer-driver David Dowling, Howmac Maleficent (Hughes) in 2:00.2 from the Baxter barn, Southwind Richochet (Gilles Barrieau) in 1:59.3 for trainer Ron Matheson, and Badgirl Bridgette (Hughes) with a surprise 26-1 victory in 1:59.2 for veteran trainer Bill Lanigan.
