Ontario-bred Jody triumphed in the $35,135 Mares Open Handicap Pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday night, March 6, leading from start to finish. Jody, hailing from post eight, seized the early lead, while Tae settled in behind. Race favourite Incaseyoudidntlnow lingered at the back. Jody maintained a swift pace of :27.2 for the quarter-mile on the wet track.
Progressing to the halfway point in :56.1 without facing any challenges, Jody faced pressure from Southwind Icenfire on the backstretch. Disturbed Hanover followed suit, with Incaseyoudidntknow lagging behind in third place.
Jody remained unchallenged at the three-quarter mark, clocking 1:24.4. Incaseyoudidntknow made a late surge, widening to four lanes in the stretch. However, Jody repelled the attack and won by a margin of half a length in 1:52.4, rewarding bettors with $10.20.
The mare, sired by Betterthancheddar and out of Topgun Lady, belongs to Reginald A. Hazzard II from Millsboro, Delaware. Wayne Givens trained the six-year-old, while Allan Davis steered her to victory, marking her fourth win in eight starts this season.
Incaseyoudidntlnow finished strongly in second place, with Tae securing third. Bally’s Dover’s next race begins at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Penzance Hanover, aiming for a fourth consecutive victory, will face stiff competition from the well-rested I Did It Myway and the shippers Mack and Maximus Miki from Pocono Downs.
