On July 5th, eight skilled harness racing drivers from across Canada will face off in the Canadian Driving Championship at the Hippodrome 3R in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. The champion of this eight-race competition will earn the opportunity to represent Canada at the World Driving Championships in New Zealand in 2025. Organised by Standardbred Canada, the event features two drivers from each of the country's four regions.
This year marks the first time that the finals will be held at the Hippodrome 3R. The morning line was used to determine the point system for the competition, with the potential finishing order calculated based on estimated betting odds.
Stephane Brosseau, a standout driver from H3R, is feeling confident after a recent winning streak at the track. With three race favourites to drive, he is eager to compete in the championship. Robert Shepherd, the other H3R representative, is also feeling optimistic about his chances, despite facing tough competition.
Ontario's Tyler Borth, who ranked third in the morning line odds, is happy with his draw and hopes to start the competition strong. Following his victory in the Ontario Regional Finals, he is excited to compete against top drivers and potentially secure a win in the championship.
The drivers will meet and greet fans at the track on Friday afternoon before the official presentation of the competition begins at 3:00 pm. As the drivers gear up for battle, the excitement and anticipation for the Canadian Driving Championship are palpable.
