On Wednesday, April 24, at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, Laila Blue pulled off a 7-1 upset win in the $11,600 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace. This was Blue's first-ever score in the Preferred category.
Ed Hensley of Major League N took the field to the half in 57.3 and the quarter in 27.4. Travis Henry and Laila Blue led the field from the rail and moved to the outside after finishing fifth in the first half of the race. After splitting the field into three groups at 1:27.1 for the first three quarters, Laila Blue held onto her second place over third. The field dispersed down the length, fighting its way in the direction of the wire. Laila Blue won the photo finish by a length in 1:58. Exotic Dragon (Travis Cullen) and Sports Duchess (Samuel Fillion) tied for second place.
The seven-year-old daughter of Art Major and the Bettors Delight mare Delightful Diva is owned by trainer Doug Good. Laila Blue increased her career bankroll to $190,994 by winning her third race out of 15 races this year and her 15th race out of 136 career starts. She paid $16.60 to win.
