Magic Dealer triumphed at Hanover Raceway

Magic Dealer delivered a memorable victory for local connections in the 2024 Dream Of Glory Trot at Hanover Raceway.

Driver Samuel Fillion guided the second choice, Magic Dealer, to the lead from post two in the $50,000 final. After letting Birthday Money (driven by Todd Ratchford) take the initial lead, Fillion moved Magic Dealer to the front through a :29 opening panel. Mass Cara (Brett MacDonald) applied first-over pressure through the middle fractions of 1:00.3 and 1:30, but was unable to overtake Magic Dealer, who maintained the lead.

As they turned for home, Mass Cara slightly gapped, allowing Birthday Money a late opportunity. However, Birthday Money's bid fell short, and Magic Dealer won by a half-length in 2:00. Mass Cara finished third.

Magic Dealer, a homebred owned by Oaklea Farm of Simcoe, Ont., is trained by Paul Walker, marking both his and Fillion's first win in Hanover's signature event. The 2-1 second choice paid $6.00 to win, securing his fourth victory of the year and increasing his earnings to $55,825.

In the $15,000 Doc Morley Invitational, McWicked Move ($11.70) made a decisive move around the first turn, driving from post seven for driver Travis Henry. She cleared to the front before the opening quarter and remained uncontested, clocking fractions of :29.3, 1:01.2, and 1:31 before finishing in :29.4 for a total time of 2:00.4. Come See Come Saw (Tyler Moore) finished two lengths behind in second, with Lola Montez (Fillion) taking third.

McWicked Move, trained by Brent Dunbar and owned by Dorothy Dunbar of Palmerston, Ont., is now a three-time winner.

In the $6,000 Preferred 3 Pace, Harpers Hat Trick ($2.70) delivered a strong performance for driver Trevor Henry and owner-trainer Kristopher Haskell of Clinton, Ont. The six-year-old son of Sportswriter - Mightymachthree won in 1:56.2, marking his 24th career victory and boosting his lifetime earnings to $157,890.
