'Magician' And 'Perception' Slightly Frustrated In London Preferreds

On Monday, May 13, the Western Fair District's The Raceway hosted an evening event with two $11,600 Preferreds as the co-features. The winners were slightly upset.

Anthony Haughan held the lines for Anthony Beaton as Ideal Perception made every pole in the $11,600 Preferred Pace a winning one.

Taking the lead early on, Ideal Perception never looked back, winning by a half length in 1:54 after maintaining at least a 1-3/4 length advantage through panels in:27.3,:57.3, and 1:25.3. Favorite Docsphillycheese (Alfred Carroll) had to settle for second after making a late surge from the pocket, while Pembroke Legacy N (Jason Ryan) took third.

The seven-year-old son of American Ideal-Southwind Siren is owned by Lisa Lefort, who has recorded his 29th career victory and fourth win in 15 starts this year. Ideal Perception has amassed $378,960 in 137 lifetime starts. After finishing second and third in his most recent Preferred outings in London, he came back with $8.60 as the third selection from 3-1 odds.

Magician won the co-featured $11,600 Preferred Trot together with Garrett Rooney, who finished first on the card with four wins, and rode for Jennifer Pinkerton.

Before pulling to the outside, Rooney and the gelding went third through the quarter in 27.4 and the half in 58.1. The two took the lead at the three-quarters in 1:27.2, but they would have to fight hard to overcome Marvin Hagler (Brett MacDonald), who was in second place. Scene A Magician won by a quarter of a length in 1:57 down to the wire. Travis Henry's Takeapeek At Me finished the triactor.

Jennifer Pinkerton is the owner of Scene A Magician (Daylon Magician-Scene Duharas), who is winning for the second time this year after eight starts, marking his 33rd career victory. The 10-year-old gelding has earned $395,104 in 149 lifetime starts. He wagered $9.80 as the 4-1 fourth choice to win.
