McIntosh passed away at the age of 71

The McIntosh family has announced the passing of renowned standardbred harness racing trainer and breeder Robert "Bob" McIntosh, who died on Sunday, July 28, at the age of 71.

Born on August 11, 1952, McIntosh was recognised for his outstanding contributions to the sport, being inducted into the Living Harness Racing Hall of Fame in Goshen, NY, in 2003, followed by his induction into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2010.

Throughout his career, he garnered four O’Brien Awards as Canada’s top trainer in 1991, 1992, 1998, and 2008, along with two O’Brien Awards for Canada’s top breeder in 2007 and 2010.

McIntosh's journey in harness racing began by assisting his father, Jack, in managing the family stable. He later worked with his older brother, Doug, before establishing his own successful career.

He was honoured twice with the Glen Garnsey Award for United States Trainer of the Year and twice named Canadian Trainer of the Year. With 15 Breeders Crown victories, he holds the record for the most titles won by a trainer in that prestigious event.

His impressive roster of trainees included Horses of the Year Artsplace and Staying Together, as well as Canadian Horse of the Year Whenuwishuponastar, Artiscape, and the legendary sire Camluck.
