Oak Grove Open Trot is Where Swan Flyer is able to Soar

Marvin Luna led early on Swan Flyer, was shuffled, and then bolted into the final circle to win the $41,892 Open Trot at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel.

Luna led Swan Flyer for 27.2 quarters from post two before falling to fourth for 56.1 half. Kings County (driven by Anthony MacDonald) took the lead, followed by Yo Beth D (VerlinYoder) and even-money favourite The Hazelton (Devon Tharps) in third.

At 1:24.3, Yo Beth D held a shrinking advantage as Swan Flyer gained impetus toward the straightaway. Swan Flyer seized the lead, turning for home, and increased his lead with every stride until he crossed the line in 1:53.3 miles, 5-1/4 lengths ahead of Usosweet Blue Chip.

A five-year-old gelding by Swan For All, Swan Flyer is trained by Mickey Burke for FAC Racing LLC, Joseph Di Scala Jr., and Yannick Gingras. He won 15 of 55 races and earned $257,539. Third-choice betting cost him $12.42 to win.

In the $24,324 Open 2 Trot, Atlee Bender waited until past three-quarters to attack Erv Miller trainee Sparks Fly before exploding for the lead and winning easily in 1:55.1 as the odds-on favourite. Four-year-old Bar Hopping horse won his sixth race in 17 starts for Ervin Miller Stable Inc. and Douglas Overhiser, boosting his bankroll to $83,977 and winning cost $3.46.
