Oakwood Ardan is set to make a significant appearance in the C$540,000 Canadian Pacing Derby on Saturday at Woodbine Mohawk Park, following an impressive run of performances since his arrival from Great Britain eight months ago. Owned by Bill Peshina and trained by Robert Cleary, the 5-year-old pacer has achieved 10 wins in 15 races, showing consistent excellence on the track.
Peshina initially just wanted a competitive horse to be proud of, and Oakwood Ardan has certainly exceeded those expectations. Cleary remarked on the horse's incredible potential, noting his powerful stride and determination, qualities that set him apart from others. The horse's impressive resume includes six consecutive wins at The Meadowlands, along with solid performances at Mohawk, despite a recent finish in the Preferred races.
As he heads into the Canadian Pacing Derby from post one, he will go up against formidable opponents such as Abuckabett Hanover, the morning-line favourite, and Taurasi, both of whom also have had successful seasons. With his regular driver Andy McCarthy at the reins, Peshina and Cleary remain hopeful that Oakwood Ardan will perform well and continue to prove himself on this grand stage.
The event will also highlight the C$600,000 Maple Leaf Trot, featuring the talented Periculum as the early favourite. Overall, it's set to be an exciting day of harness racing at Mohawk Park.
