In a memorable edition of the G1 Juddmonte International Stakes on Wednesday, City Of Troy, the brilliant son of Justify, delivered a performance for the ages. The race featured its first double-digit field since 2016, and the City Of Troy, which is from the lineage of the only unbeaten Triple Crown winner and five-time triple-digit Beyer Speed Figure achiever, lived up to his pedigree.
He sent off as the 5-4 favourite, City Of Troy burst from the gates and took control from the outset. He maintained a relentless pace, and when asked to quicken in the straight, he powered ahead to break Sea The Stars’ long-standing track record by nearly a second in the £1.25 million, 10-furlong feature.
Calandagan (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}) mounted a late challenge and also dipped below the previous record, but City Of Troy held firm to win by a length. Ghostwriter (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), who finished third in the G1 Eclipse Stakes, stayed on well to take third, 3 1/2 lengths behind.
