After initially sitting in third place during the first quarter with a time of :28, James MacDonald skillfully manoeuvred Pemberton to take the lead. The seven-year-old horse surged ahead and reached the front position before reaching the halfway point with a time of :57.1. Pemberton maintained its lead as they approached three-quarters, recording a time of 1:26.3, while Pikachu Hanover, ridden by Doug McNair, made a determined move on the outside.
As they entered the home stretch, Pikachu Hanover continued to close the gap, and Locatelli, ridden by Chris Christoforou, made a late charge. However, Pemberton managed to hold them off and secure victory with a time of 1:55.2, finishing one-and-a-half lengths ahead. Pikachu Hanover finished just behind Locatelli in third place.
