Preakness weather: Baltimore is expected to see rain

The Preakness Stakes is an American thoroughbred horse race held annually on Armed Forces Day, the third Saturday in May at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The Preakness Stakes is a Grade I race run over a distance of 1+3⁄16 miles (9.5 furlongs; 1.9 kilometres) on dirt. Colts and geldings carry 126 pounds (57 kg). Fillies 121 pounds (55 kg). It is the second jewel (or leg) of the Triple Crown, held two weeks after the Kentucky Derby and three weeks before the Belmont Stakes.

Preakness week at Pimlico is predicted to be rainy. On Saturday, the day of Preakness, the National Weather Service predicts a 50% chance of showers with a high around 78. On Saturday night, there is a 30% chance of precipitation, while Sunday is predicted to be sunny.

The remainder of the week is expected to see rain as well.

Tuesday is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high about 78. Showers and thunderstorms are possible after 5 p.m. EDT. The probability of precipitation is 60%, and it rises to 90% throughout night.

Wednesday is likely to see showers once more, with a 70% probability and a high around 74. Wednesday night's chances of precipitation drop to 40%.

Thursday will be mostly sunny with a high around 81 and a 20% chance of showers.

There's a 30% chance of showers on Friday, when the high is expected to be close to 81. Overnight, there is a 60% chance of rain and possibly thunderstorms.
