Amidst a veil of dense fog and amongst a field of nine contenders, Prince Archie secured his inaugural triumph of 2024 at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, March 3.
The victory unfolded in the $8,400 non-winners of three events, which served as the final act of the Sunday 10-race card. Steven Hudon took the reins of the 7-2 second favourite and guided Prince Archie to success. Starting from post position five, Hudon strategically positioned Prince Archie in the pocket spot, while Colin Kelly and All-Star Goldi set the pace with a brisk opening quarter of :29.
Maintaining their positions at the forefront, the duo led the pack through the halfway mark in :58.3 before disappearing into the dense fog en route to the three-quarter pole, which they reached in 1:28.1. As they headed into the far turn, Prince Archie surged ahead after a decisive move past the fading All Star Goldi.
Dominating the field as they turned for home, Prince Archie extended his lead, triumphing by 4 and a half lengths at the wire in a time of 1:58.2. Archimedes and Lyle MacArthur staged a late rally to secure second place, followed by ER Norma and Jason Ryan in third. Prince Archie rewarded his backers with a $9 payout for the win.
This victory marked Prince Archie's first win in six attempts in 2024 and the sixth of his career. Trained by Laura Toscani and owned by Gino Toscani, the four-year-old gelded son of Archangel-Belle Of The Ball boosted his lifetime earnings to $51,822 with this latest triumph.
