Claiborne Farm has secured the breeding rights to Prince of Monaco, a top dirt sprinter and the only son of renowned stallion Speightstown to capture a Grade 1 race at age 2. Following his retirement from racing, he began his stud career at the Paris, Kentucky farm.
Currently, the 3-year-old is preparing for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint on November 2 at Del Mar. After fetching $950,000 as a yearling at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale, Prince of Monaco joined the stable of Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, achieving a remarkable record by winning his first three races. His debut at Los Alamitos was a standout victory by eight lengths. He then excelled in the Best Pal Stakes (G3) at Del Mar, winning by 4 1/4 lengths and setting a stakes record with a time of 1:09.19, while earning a 103 Beyer Speed Figure.
His impressive 2-year-old season was capped by a victory in the Del Mar Futurity (G1). As a 3-year-old, he continued to perform well, finishing close in two Grade 1 races at Saratoga. Claiborne's president, Walker Hancock, praised his early accomplishments and ability. Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet, Prince of Monaco is out of the Medaglia d’Oro mare Rainier, and Barbara Banke is optimistic about his future as a promising stallion, recognizing his unique talent and athleticism on the track.
