R Liza, driven by Jody Jamieson, continued her undefeated season with a commanding win in the $140,000 division of the second Ontario Sires Stakes Gold leg for three-year-old trotting fillies on Monday, June 17, at Mohawk.
Starting as the 7-5 second choice, Jamieson positioned R Liza behind early leader No One, who surged to the front from post nine with a :27.2 first quarter. Unwilling to trail the long shot, Jamieson made a decisive move to take the lead by the halfway mark in :57. Lexus Angel, driven by Trevor Henry, mounted a first-over challenge on the final turn but couldn't maintain the pace as R Liza quickened to reach three-quarters in 1:26.1.
In the homestretch, R Liza extended her lead to five lengths under Jamieson's urging. Although 3-5 favorite Willys Home Run, driven by James MacDonald, closed in from the stalled cover to challenge the leader, R Liza's strong final quarter of :27.3 secured her victory in 1:53.4. Willys Home Run finished second, Lexus Angel held on for third, and Muscone, driven by Travis Cullen, completed the superfecta.
Trained by Susanne Kerwood, the Muscle Mass-Wishimaywishimight filly has won all four starts in 2024, amassing $221,700 for the season. Owned by M And L Of Delaware LLC and Alabama Harness Associates, R Liza has an impressive career record of eight wins in twelve starts, earning $332,357.
The next Gold leg for the sophomore trotting fillies is the $150,000 Mid-Season Final on Saturday, July 6, at Woodbine Mohawk Park, where R Liza will aim to maintain her top position in the division.
