Resilience, a Kentucky Derby contender breezes Monday

After winning the Grade 2 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct on April 6, Resilience raced at Churchill Downs on Monday morning for the second time in five days.

Sean Collins of BloodHorse reported on Monday morning that Resilience completed five furlongs in 1:01.60 under jockey Junior Alvarado, who is anticipated to ride him in the Kentucky Derby. Alvarado will be riding Resilience for the first time in the competition. Although he rode Fierceness in the Wood to win the race, John Velazquez is anticipated to ride her in the Kentucky Derby.

Junior filly champion Just F Y I, trainer Bill Mott's stablemate for Resilience, was also at Churchill Downs on Monday morning. In preparation for the May 3 Kentucky Oaks (G1), Just F Y I completed five furlongs in 59.80 seconds, the fastest of 12 at the distance that day. For Monday's session, Alvarado rode Just F Y I as well, having ridden her in all of her starts.

Just F Y I had worked on it twice in the previous five days. Alongside Resilience, she worked four furlongs on Thursday at Churchill Downs.
