Richard Moreau Triumphs with Three Wins at Flamboro Downs

Canada's top trainer, Richard Moreau, enjoyed a remarkable evening at Flamboro Downs, clinching victory in three out of the 11 races on Sunday, February 18.

Moreau, in collaboration with driver Samuel Fillion, secured his initial triumph of the night during the third race. Despite starting from the second tier among nine contenders, Fillion swiftly took the lead with Miss Dew Write at the quarter pole, covering the backside at a swift pace of :27.4. Miss Dew Write maintained control throughout the middle half, posting fractional times of :57.1 and 1:26.1, with favourite Ultimate Long Shot closely tailing from the pocket. As they turned for home, Ultimate Long Shot made a final push, but Miss Dew Write resiliently held on, crossing the finish line first with a final quarter of :30.1, clocking 1:56.2.

Racing under the ownership of Ecurie Francis Richard Inc. and Gaston Bibeau, the four-year-old mare, daughter of Sportswriter-Shes A Dewar, secured her second victory of the season, bringing her career earnings to $51,340.

Driver Brett Macdonald joined forces with Moreau for the second win of the evening, guiding Sicario to victory in the $10,000 non-winners of $75,500 lifetime trot. Despite starting from the far outside post six, Macdonald steered Sicario to the lead from the outset, leading the race with fractions of :29, :59, and 1:27.4. Maintaining a strong lead, Sicario fended off a late challenge from Impressive Dude in the stretch, ultimately winning by half a length in 1:57.1.

This victory marked Sicario's first win of the season, enhancing his career earnings to over $400,000, now standing at $400,703.

Macdonald once again partnered with Moreau for their third victory of the night, securing a win with Royal Regatta in the $8,000 claiming race. Despite starting as the 1-5 favourite, Royal Regatta initially settled in third place, gradually closing the gap and eventually overtaking Beach Fire K to claim victory by a little over a length in 1:56.2.

Owned by Normand Beausoleil, Royal Regatta achieved his first victory of 2024 in his fifth race, bringing his career earnings to $271,395.
