Roll Em lived up to his name and dominated the $4,000 Preferred 1 Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on a rainy Saturday evening (June 8). The six-year-old bay-pacing gelding, backed as the heavy favourite at 1-9 odds, cruised to victory, paying $2.10 to win.
Driver Marc Campbell capitalised on post one, positioning Roll Em well from the outset and fending off challenges, notably from All Bets On Tex driven by Adam Merner. After a brief moment where All Bets On Tex took the lead on the backstretch, Roll Em swiftly regained control, clocking a brisk :27.3 first quarter and maintaining a commanding lead through a :56.4 half.
Despite Blood Money's move on the outside approaching the 5/8-mile mark, Roll Em remained unchallenged, reaching three-quarters in 1:27. With a comfortable lead and plenty in reserve following a moderate middle half of :59.2, Roll Em extended his advantage to clinch victory by two and a half lengths, crossing the line in 1:54.2 on a sloppy track with a one-second variant. All Bets On Tex secured second place, with Twin B Tuffenuff finishing third.
Trained by Brent Campbell of Charlottetown and co-owned by Brady Doyle, Ryan MacLeod, and Savage Stable, Roll Em boasts an impressive career record of 30 wins, with two victories out of three starts in 2024, bringing his total earnings to $430,009.
In other races of the evening, Pendleton Rodeo notched his fourth consecutive win, Avatar J secured victory in the 13th race finale with Marc Campbell in the driver's seat, and Corey MacPherson claimed the first two races with Howmac Exclusive and Roll On Lewis. Watchmaker emerged triumphant in the Crane Supply Pace, driven by Mike Downey and trained by Ellen Stevenson.
Fans can look forward to more exciting live racing action at Red Shores Summerside on Tuesday evening, starting at 6 P.M.
