Safe Conduct Claims Victory at Mohawk Park's Preferred-Handicap

Safe Conduct, a son of Archangel, demonstrated his prowess against top trotters by securing his first win in the Preferred-Handicap at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday, December 2. Driven by Chris Christoforou, the gelding settled into the pocket position early, trailing Fashion Frenzie, piloted by Louis-Philippe Roy, through initial fractions of :28 and :56.3.

As the race reached the final turn, Amigo Volo made a move from third, prompting Safe Conduct to leave the rail and challenge. By the three-quarter mark at 1:25.4, Safe Conduct had built momentum, surging ahead in the stretch to surpass Fashion Frenzie near the eighth pole. Despite a late effort from James MacDonald aboard Amigo Volo, who closed from a distance, Safe Conduct maintained his lead, finishing in 1:53.2. Amigo Volo secured second place, edging out Fashion Frenzie at the wire.

Safe Conduct’s rise through the ranks this season has been notable, progressing from non-winners of $10,000 conditions in July to making his Preferred-level debut in October. Trained by Camilla Christoforou and owned by Irvann Holdings of Toronto and Charalambos Christoforou of Campbellville, the five-year-old gelding has accumulated $431,120 in earnings and achieved nine career victories from 42 starts.

Racing enthusiasts can look forward to continued action at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, December 5, with the first post scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EST.
