Santa Anita's Program Makes a Comeback for the Classic Meet

The return of Santa Anita's Ship and Win program for the Classic Meet, commencing on December 26, was announced as a significant draw for out-of-state horse owners. Under this program, horses that ship in to compete at the Arcadia track would be eligible for bonuses. Throughout the 49-day Classic Meet, these eligible horses could earn a guaranteed bonus of $4,000 for their first start, although first-time starters would not qualify. Additionally, horses finishing in the first through fifth positions in a dirt race would benefit from a 50% bonus on the listed purse, while those racing on turf would receive a 40% bonus. It was noted that these purse bonuses apply only to one race.

According to Jason Egan, the Director of Racing and Racing Secretary at Santa Anita, the Ship and Win program serves as an excellent incentive for horsemen, drawing a considerable number of out-of-state horses. He emphasised Santa Anita’s reputation as a premier facility for racing and training year-round, particularly during the winter months when the climate is exceptional. Egan expressed confidence that Santa Anita showcases some of the best turf racing in the United States during both the Classic and Hollywood Meets.

The Classic Meet is set to continue until April 6, after which the Hollywood Meet will commence on April 16 and run until June 15.
