According to John Stewart of Resolute Racing, the two-time Eclipse champion sprinter Goodnight Olive is scheduled to be covered by the multiple Grade I winner Seize the Grey during the upcoming breeding season. The announcement was shared on the social media platform X.
Goodnight Olive, who concluded her racing career with a victory in the prestigious GI PNC Bank Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint in 2023, has recently changed hands for $6,000,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Night of the Stars sale. She is already set to be bred to Not This Time, with her first foal expected next year.
Seize the Grey, who concluded his racing career last month after securing wins in the GI Preakness Stakes and the GI Pennsylvania Derby under the guidance of MyRacehorse and trainer D. Wayne Lukas, will commence his first season at stud with a breeding fee of $30,000.
In response to feedback regarding his choice of stallion, Stewart expressed his desire to incorporate the lineage of the late Arrogate into breeding programs. He emphasised the potential for Seize the Grey to enhance breeding stock value and acknowledged the strength of his credentials, despite the popularity of Into Mischief among breeders. Stewart remains confident in data-driven breeding decisions, believing that Seize the Grey possesses considerable potential as a sire.
