Shoot The Whiskey showcased her prowess in the $11,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday, February 27.
The Jodie Cullen-trained mare, with an impressive track record of a win and two seconds in her recent races, secured her second victory in this season's London co-feature race.
Taking the lead was the favoured Major League N, driven by Ed Hensley, who set a blistering pace with fractions of :27.2, :56.3, and 1:25. So Frisky, guided by Colin Kelly, tactically positioned herself in second place, while Shoot The Whiskey, with Travis Cullen in the driver's seat, closely followed in third. As the race progressed towards the final stretch, So Frisky made a move to challenge Major League N, with Shoot The Whiskey in tow.
The trio battled it out, neck and neck, rounding the final turn. In an impressive sprint to the finish line, Shoot The Whiskey surged ahead, clinching victory by a narrow margin in 1:54.4 over Major League N, with So Frisky settling for third place.
Owned by Travis Cullen, Paul Sanders, and J J J Stables, Shoot The Whiskey, a five-year-old mare sired by Shadow Play and out of the American Ideal mare Arm In Arm, improved her career statistics to 21 wins, 12 seconds, and 9 thirds in 68 starts, amassing a total of $273,187 in earnings. Despite being the second favourite in the co-feature race, Shoot The Whiskey rewarded her backers with a ticket price of $4.80 for a win.
