The Raceway at the Western Fair District hosted an exciting evening of racing on Tuesday, Feb. 6, featuring a pair of co-featured Preferred races. Among the standout performances was So Frisky, who claimed the spotlight by emerging as the winner in the distaff Preferred Handicap Pace, crossing the finish line in a swift 1:56.1 at the London, Ont.
Under the guidance of skilled driver Colin Kelly, So Frisky, a talented mare trained by Anita Ouellette, started from post three in a competitive field of six contenders vying for the $11,000 purse. Initially positioned in the third spot, So Frisky made a decisive move first over at the half-mile mark, ultimately seizing control of the race in the final turn. With sheer determination, she maintained her lead, triumphing by a respectable length and stopping the clock at an impressive 1:56.1. Travis Cullen-driven Shoot The Whiskey secured the runner-up position, while Tyler Borth-handled Arizona completed the triactor.
So Frisky, a remarkable eight-year-old mare sired by Dali and dame Beauty Delight, is owned by Luc Ouellette, in collaboration with Paul Bernard, who also bred her. This victory marked her second win in just four starts this season and an incredible 40th career triumph out of 138 starts. So Frisky's impressive earnings now stand at a noteworthy sum of $317,383. Despite entering the race as the third betting choice at odds of 6-1, she rewarded her supporters with a generous payout of $13.
In the opening race of the evening, the $11,000 Preferred Handicap Trot, Andy Over showcased his prowess with a captivating performance, securing victory under the guidance of driver Ed Hensley. Owned by Ed and Ashleigh Hensley, this seven-year-old gelding, born from the pairing of Andovers Son and Victory Love, demonstrated his exceptional abilities.
Breaking from the fifth position, Andy Over maintained his position throughout the early stages of the race, conserving his energy as the frontrunners set the pace. Approaching the three-quarters, driver Ed Hensley executed a strategic manoeuvre, guiding Andy Over second over behind the cover of Tyler Borth-driven Bucktober.
