Sophomore stakes racing returned to Red Shores on Sunday afternoon with the P.E.I. Colt Stakes at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway.
The afternoon saw 14 runs in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for three-year-old pacing colts and fillies.
Chip Of Evil (Arthur Blue Chip) began her three-year-old season on a victorious note, finishing in 1:57.2 in the $18,400 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division with Corey MacPherson for trainer Eddy Doucette and Kensington's Inarush Stable. Fern Hill Indigo, driven by Brodie MacPhee, finished second, just ahead of Rollwithitdarling and Marc Campbell.
High Roller (Big Jim) defeated Dusty Lane Dixie and Sensational Gal in 1:56.2 for the remaining $18,400 Gold split. Adam Merner drove the winning filly for trainer Melissa Rennie, as well as owners Marsha Knox and Cory Livingston.
Promise Me Later (Articulator) won the $9,200 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies in 1:59.4, Redland Peaches (McWicked) in 1:57.2, Tobins Hottie (Source Of Pride) in 1:59.1, Thinkingofeddie (Pang Shui) in 1:59.1, and Woodmere Luna (Arthur Blue Chip) in 2:00.1.
In $18,200 Gold action for three-year-old pacing colts, Jackies Boy (Tobago Cays) defeated Good Omen and Little Leroy in 1:56.3. Myles Heffernan Sr. was at the lines of Jackies Boy for Myles Heffernan Jr., owner and trainer.
The other $18,200 sophomore colt Gold category of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes saw Merigo Magic (Tobago Cays) dominate the entire mile to win in 1:56.3 for trainer Rennie and owners Mike May, Herman Mcquaid, Derrick Cameron, and Ian Walker. Pauls Crown took the deuce, with Check Your Chip completing the trifecta.
The $9,100 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots divisions were won by Mappo Oriley (Sunshine Beach) in 1:57, Reassurance (Stonebridge Terror) in 1:58, Kiss My Bet (All Bets Off) in 1:59.4, Jack Boswall (Tobago Cays) in 1:57.3, and Saulsbrook Litten (Big Jim) in 2:02.
