Piloted by driver Brett Miller, the four-year-old International Moni-Legal Lady gelding surged ahead from the fifth post in a competitive $32,432 conditioned trot. Establishing a commanding lead at the :27.3 quarter mark, Spitfire Oversees accelerated after a :56.2 half, storming to the three-quarter mark in 1:23.
The duo continued their relentless pace down the stretch, widening the gap to an impressive twelve lengths by the end of the record-breaking mile. In a field of nine contenders, I Know My Chip and Dontforgetlittleman claimed the second and third spots, respectively.
Clocking a career-best time of 1:51.1, Spitfire Oversees secured the honour of recording the second fastest mile by a trotter at Miami Valley Raceway, falling short only to Atlanta's remarkable 1:50.4 triumph in the 2019 Miami Valley Distaff Trot.
Hailing from Guelph, Ont., Spitfire Oversees is under the ownership of Thestable Spitfireovrsees and is diligently trained by Stacey Van Huizen. With an impressive track record of three victories out of eight seasonal starts at Miami Valley, the trotter has accumulated a total of 10 career wins, amassing earnings surpassing a quarter of a million dollars.
Following a dominant performance last week, Spitfire Oversees entered the race as the formidable 3-5 favourite and delivered, rewarding backers with a payout of $3.40 for the win.
