Stefano Cherchi transported to the hospital due to a head injury following a fall in Canberra

Stefano Cherchi suffered a head injury and internal bleeding after falling while riding in Canberra, Australia.

The Italian jockey has achieved more than 100 victories in the UK, primarily riding horses trained by his fellow countryman Marco Botti. Botti also supplied Cherchi's most recent mount in Britain at Chelmsford in November.

At just 23 years old, Cherchi made the switch to Australia earlier this year. He was one of three jockeys involved in a mishap during the Affinity Electrical Technologies Class 1 Plate. The fall of Cherchi's horse, Hasime, also led to Jeff Penza and Shaun Guymer being unseated.

While Penza and Guymer escaped with minor injuries, Cherchi required medical attention at the track before being transferred to the hospital.
