Three weeks after posting a career-best mile, Sweet Street Lou returned to upset the field in the $28,169 conditioned pace at Plainridge Park on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 19. Sent off as a 15-1 outsider, the three-year-old Sweet Lou gelding proved punters wrong with a thrilling quarter-length victory.
Ben Solo (Bruce Ranger) set blistering early fractions of :26.1 and :55.2, with My Boy Elroy (Drew Monti) launching a first-over move from fourth. Sweet Street Lou, driven by Kevin Switzer Jr., followed that cover, keeping pace as Ben Solo and My Boy Elroy matched strides through three-quarters in 1:23.4.
Turning for home, Switzer tipped Sweet Street Lou three-wide, and the gelding surged powerfully down the centre of the track to claim victory in 1:53.2. Bang Ah Uey (Jim Hardy) closed late to finish second, while 56-1 outsider Island Warrior (Drew Campbell) took third.
Owned and trained by Dale Andersen in partnership with Kristian Andersen, Sweet Street Lou earned his fourth win of the season from 26 starts. A $2 win wager on the upsetter returned $33.40.
