Tequila Talkin Triumphs in Northfield Open Trot

Tequila Talkin hadn't graced the winners' enclosure at MGM Northfield Park since early December, but that dry spell came to an end on Sunday evening.

The son of Cantab Hall triumphed in the $24,324 featured Open Trot at MGM Northfield Park.

Winning Ticket, Tequila Talkin, and Don't Take My Keys all surged off the starting line and charged into the first turn in unison. Tequila Talkin managed to overtake Winning Ticket before the clock hit a speedy :28.2 for the opening quarter.

The race remained tight as the field maintained their positions through the half in :57. Oberto tried to make a move for the lead going first over, but his attempt was brief as he faltered entering the backstretch.

As they hit three-quarters in 1:25.1, the trio of frontrunners held their ground. Approaching the far turn, Stahl initially nudged Don't Take My Keys to the outside but then chose to stay on the inside. In the homestretch, Stahl guided Don't Take My Keys to the passing lane. Despite a strong finish, Don't Take My Keys fell just short by half a length, with Tequila Talkin holding on for victory in 1:54.3.

With owners Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi and under the guidance of trainer Michael Burke, the skilled nine-year-old boosted his career earnings to $585,022.
