This Friday, June 28, nine three-year-old Quebec-bred trotters will compete in the 5th race $7,000 feature at the Hippodrome 3R (H3R), providing an early showcase of their abilities ahead of the Breeders Trophy Series.
Among the notable entrants is Hercules, a chestnut gelding sired by Lookslikeachpndale, starting from post-eight. Despite this challenging post position, Hercules is on a three-race winning streak under the guidance of former H3R leading trainer, Maxime Velaye. Owned and bred by the Provoquante Stable of Mirabel, Quebec, Hercules did not race as a two-year-old due to his size and immaturity but has shown significant improvement this season.
Velaye attributes Hercules' transformation to changes made in the spring, including adjustments to his equipment and training regime. Hercules' winning streak began in April, and he recently secured his fastest victory at Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ottawa, clocking in at 1:59.3 and winning by five lengths. He will be driven by top reinsman Stephane Brosseau, who has been instrumental in his development.
Despite concerns about starting from post eight, Velaye remains optimistic, citing Hercules' professional demeanour and versatility in recent races. Brosseau's experience and skill are expected to guide Hercules through this challenge.
The competitive field includes three fillies and six colts, with Captain PV, sired by Wheeling N Dealin, being the 5/2 morning favourite starting from post seven. Trained and co-owned by Serge Nadeau, Captain PV secured his maiden victory last week at H3R with a time of 2:00.
Other strong contenders include Paradise Moni (post 4), Cleveland U Bet (post 2), and JD Beauty (post 3).
Additionally, the 4th race features a $5,000 Preferred Trot, with Cleveland Moneyka (post 2), driven by Pascal Berube, coming off a recent victory with a time of 2:00. Other notable entries include Orlys Pride (post 3) and the duo of El Bleu (post 1) and Ciel Bleu (post 5).
The upcoming races at H3R promise exciting competition and an early test for these young trotters as they prepare for the prestigious Breeders Trophy Series.
