Trotting Fillies Wrap Up Grassroots Preliminaries

On Monday, September 16, two-year-old trotting fillies wrapped up their Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots preliminary rounds with three exciting fifth-leg divisions at Grand River Raceway.

In the first division, Tellers Choice (The Bank, Louis-Philippe Roy) powered up the inside to claim victory. After the horse in the pocket broke stride on the backstretch, she quickly switched to the rail and outpaced Green Glider (Trevor Henry) and Rich Girl (Bob McClure), finishing strong in 1:56.4. Green Glider managed to secure second place, edging out Rich Girl in the process.

Tellers Choice, trained by Luc Blais for Determination, now boasts a record of two wins in eight starts and has earned $22,450.

The second division saw Incantation (Muscle Mass, Garrett Rooney) grind out a hard-fought victory. After racing first-up from the half, she challenged the leader, Ibelieveinangels (Anthony Haughan), on the final turn, ultimately pulling ahead by a half-length to win in 1:57.3. Ibelieveinangels finished in second place, while All-Star Angel (Austin Sorrie) rounded out the top three.

Trained by Jeff Williams, Incantation has now impressively won back-to-back Grassroots legs. She sports a lifetime record of three wins in eight races and has amassed $61,887 for Robert McIntosh Stables and Tyrone Valley Farm.

In the final division, Eartha K (Muscle Mass, Rooney) celebrated her maiden victory. After briefly trailing, she surged to the lead in front of the grandstand, fending off Royal Sauce (Travis Henry) and holding her ground against Ivy Lenn (Samuel Fillion), securing the win with a time of 1:58. Resolve Indeed (Daryl Thiessen) finished in third.

Eartha K is trained by Stephen Bossence and is owned by Derek Reid, Dr Robert Boyce, Richard Thompson, and ECS Racing. She has accumulated $27,800 in earnings over seven starts.

Grand River Raceway will continue its racing schedule on Wednesday, September 18, at 6:30 p.m. EDT.
