Unbridled Weather first win in Frost King Stakes

On October 20, trainer Angus Buntain celebrated his first stakes victory when his 2-year-old colt, Unbridled Weather, won the $100,500 Frost King Stakes at Woodbine. Buntain, who has previously trained runners in high-profile races like the Queen’s Plate, finally made it to the stakes winner’s circle with this determined juvenile.

Unbridled Weather, owned by Pier 1 Stables, not only earned his first career win but also delivered a series of "firsts" for his connections. It was the first Woodbine stakes victory for both Pier 1 Stables and his sire, Prime Attraction, who recorded his first stakes winner with this triumph. The colt was guided by jockey Fraser Aebly, who showcased Unbridled Weather’s speed in tracking early leader My Boy Bruce and fending off challengers Awesome Rainbow and Keoka in the stretch to win in 1:16.58, earning a 71 Beyer Speed Figure.

Unbridled Weather had shown promise, finishing second in both his debut and the Bull Page Stakes, but struggled in his previous outing on turf. His Frost King victory marked a turnaround and positioned him for a potential stretch to 1 1/8 miles in the Coronation Futurity.

A $9,000 purchase at the CTHS yearling sale, Unbridled Weather is from the first crop of Ontario sire Prime Attraction, a Grade 3 Native Diver Stakes winner. Pier 1 Stables, primarily racing at Fort Erie, celebrated this significant achievement with their rising star.
