Kenny McPeek indicated that this year has been remarkably successful, remarking that he had “a lot of really nice horses in the system.” Among these are Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan and Thorpedo Anna, a standout in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks and Breeders' Cup Distaff. Their performances have significantly contributed to McPeek’s earnings of $15 million, surpassing his previous best, leading him to note the evident positive impact on his business.
McPeek described this period as both challenging and exhilarating, with a record 574 starts this year, just shy of last year’s 655. He revealed that while he has about 40 horses at Oaklawn, 36 at Fair Grounds, and several others across various tracks, maintaining an active schedule kept him and his team very busy.
Regarding Mystik Dan, he shared that the colt has resumed a training routine aimed at the Malibu Stakes on December 26. In contrast, Thorpedo Anna is currently on a 60-day break after her impressive season.
McPeek also mentioned several other horses competing in upcoming stakes. Rattle N Roll was preparing for the Clark Stakes after a strong return from a year-long layoff. Additionally, he noted that Generous Tipper would be scratched from the Zia Park Derby due to prospective buyer interest.
In terms of his younger horses, McPeek admitted having more 2-year-olds than usual and expressed optimism about Render Judgment, who will compete in the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2).
