Vekoma, Street Boss Colts Work: 09 4/5 at Timonium

At the second under-tack show of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale at the Maryland State Fair Grounds in Timonium, Maryland, on May 16, things moved along very quickly.

At the first under-tack show of the sale on May 14, when hips 1-200 were due to breeze, just one horse—Hip 12, a Volatile filly consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo—hit the :10 mark. Rain forced the cancellation of the under tack show scheduled for May 15, and track maintenance caused a two-hour delay in the start of Thursday's breezes.

Colts by Street Boss and Vekoma were among those who took advantage of the situation once the action got underway. Hip 285—a colt produced in Florida by first-crop sire Vekoma—completed a one-furlong work in :09 4/5, skipping over the Timonium surface.

The second foal out of Scion Power, the unraced sister of grade 3 winner Derwin's Star, is the chestnut colt consigned by Wavertree Stables. The three-year-old colt Banded Rocket, a Malibu Moon, is her maiden foal. He has two wins from five starts but has finished unplaced in two stakes efforts.

Waves Bloodstock bought the Vekoma colt, a $175,000 pinhook out of 2023 The July Sale, Fasig-Tipton's Kentucky sale of chosen yearlings.

That 09 4/5 time was matched by Hip 314—a grey/roan Kentucky-bred Street Boss colt by the winning Sky Mesa mare Snow Mesa. Hip 314, consigned by Longoria Training and Sales, was purchased for $35,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale the previous year.

At the opening-day under tack show, only one horse—Hartley/DeRenzo's Authentic colt consigned as Hip 59—was able to reach the :21 1/5 mark for two furlongs. Four other horses recorded that time. Hoppel consigned Hip 203, an Instilled Regard filly by the placed Big Brown mare One Foxy Grey. The filly, born in Kentucky, sold for $18,000 at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale in 2022.

Hip 225 - a colt by Maclean's Music by way of the Congrats mare Port of Indy that won the race. The Kentucky-bred colt, consigned by Golden Rock Thoroughbreds, had previously brought $125,000 at the Kentucky October Yearlings auction held by Fasig-Tipton.

Hip 258 is a colt by Bolt d'Oro that Pike Racing consigned to Highlander. The grey/roan colt is Dominus's second foal out of Reinita, who is the sister of grade 2-placed stakes winner All Right. The Bolt d'Oro colt, which had been purchased for $57,000 at the Fasig-Tipton July auction, was later repurchased for $170,000 at the Ocala Breeders' March auction of 2-Year-Olds in Training.

Hip 374 is an authentic filly consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo that is bred in Kentucky. When the bay filly was a weanling at Keeneland in November, her acquisition price was $280,000. The fifth foal out of the group is hip 374. Half-sister to grade 1 winner and sire Latent Heat, grade 2 winner Indian Flare, group 3 winner Art Master, and stakes-placed Real Trust is the Afleet Alex mare Truly Gifted.
