Little Red Feather Coming Back to Breeders’ Cup
Little Red Feather Racing, which burst onto the scene with a stunning 16-1 upset by *Singletary* in the 2004 Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T), is back for more. The California-based syndicate has three expected starters for the 2024 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, set to take place at Del Mar on November 1-2.
Since its early triumph, Little Red Feather has grown into California’s largest racing syndicate, overseeing nearly 100 horses and offering over 400 partnerships. Founder Billy Koch never imagined the syndicate’s growth but is proud of what it has become. "There were times when I thought it wouldn’t happen, but it did," Koch said, reflecting on the challenges of the sport.
Leading the charge for the 2024 Breeders' Cup are two 2-year-olds: *Iron Man Cal*, entered the Juvenile Turf (G1T), and *Thought Process*, a standout in the Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T). Both horses, trained by Phil D’Amato, are coming off significant wins. *Gold Phoenix*, another runner for the syndicate, will make his third consecutive appearance in the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T).
While Little Red Feather’s horses may face long odds, Koch remains optimistic. "The Breeders’ Cup is the championship of horse racing. Any chance we have to run against the best in the world, we’ll take our shot."
With a history of surprises, the syndicate hopes to relive the magic of 2004—and maybe dash down the escalator to the winner’s circle once more.
