Super Screener Santa Anita: Pincay Establishes Value Standard in Stakes
The Super Screener indicated hopes for one last significant day in 2024 with its final edition of the year, which would encompass all six graded stakes races on opening day at Santa Anita. This lineup features an all-graded-stakes Pick 6 that includes three Grade 1 events, starting with the Laffit Pincay Jr. Stakes, a Grade 2 race for older males, with aspirations for prestigious prizes like the Pegasus World Cup and the Santa Anita Handicap in early 2025.
Mike Shutty had plans to take advantage of the Pincay Stakes, choosing not to back the morning-line favourite but instead to explore pricing options including J B Strikes Back, who had a morning line of 6-1. Shutty remarked in Super Screener that J B Strikes Back was a three-year-old gelding improving at a pivotal moment, especially considering the experience of the older horses in the event. He noted that the horse, trained by Doug O'Neill, had substantial potential.
Shutty emphasised that J B Strikes Back would likely position himself strategically and was capable of managing any pace scenario, having earned the opportunity to face tougher competition after consecutive victories. He recognised the horse's recent sharp work, which hinted at further improvement.
Furthermore, the Super Screener provided insights on each race, highlighting top contenders and strategies for wagering. While J B Strikes Back was particularly captivating with his 6-1 odds, other contenders like Tarantino and long-shot American Admiral also attracted attention. The Super Screener’s offerings were consistently available weekly, culminating in a subscription option that ran through the Kentucky Derby for $97.
