Harness racing veteran Gorden McKnight celebrated a significant milestone as he secured his first driving victory since 2022, guiding Livingitlarge to a maiden-breaking win at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday (June 8).
In just his second time driving the gelding, McKnight took charge from the outset, setting a brisk :30.3 opening quarter on a track rated as second slow. Despite pressure from Best Wishes Only approaching three-quarters, Livingitlarge maintained his lead around the final turn, holding off challengers down the stretch to clinch victory by three-quarters-of-a-length in 2:03.4.
Livingitlarge, who had gone winless in 11 previous starts, showcased his potential under McKnight's guidance, earning $17,745 for trainer Lorne House and co-owner Chantal Ruijs.
McKnight, boasting an impressive record of 1,067 winners in 7,458 starts since his debut in 1984, has seen limited action in recent years, making fewer than 100 total starts over the past three seasons. His last triumph came on October 7, 2022, in London.
In addition to McKnight's victory, Andy Moore also had a standout performance, driving three winners on the card, highlighting an eventful day at Hiawatha Horse Park.
