Allywag Hanover has officially retired from racing

Allywag Hanover, a multiple world record holder, has officially retired from racing.

Throughout his impressive career, Allywag Hanover competed in 79 races, securing 28 victories along with 12 second-place finishes and nine third-place finishes. He was honoured with the prestigious Dan Patch Award as the top older pacer in 2021. That same year, he made history as the fastest four-year-old gelding at The Red Mile, clocking in at 1:46.4 during the Allerage Farms Open Pace.

His career achievements continued with another milestone in 2022 when he set a record on a five-eighths track, winning the Potomac Pace at Rosecroft Raceway in the same time of 1:46.4. Among his most notable accomplishments was his stunning upset against Bulldog Hanover in the Allerage Farms Open Pace at The Red Mile, where he recorded a world record time of 1:46 for a gelding.

Trainer Brett Pelling praised Allywag Hanover, stating, "He’s a beast. People don’t give him the recognition he deserves. When you’re around him, he gives you chills. You have no idea how fast he is travelling, and he has a very unique style; it’s raw speed."

The ownership team expresses their gratitude to Pelling, driver Todd McCarthy, and groom Terry Buchanan for their dedication. Racing manager Marcus Johansson, on behalf of Allywag Partners, stated, "We want to thank everyone who has followed, watched, and cheered for 'Allywag' over the last six years. He has provided us with some of the greatest moments in racing, for both owners and the sport as a whole."

Now at the age of seven, the Captaintreacherous-Anderosa Hanover gelding will enjoy a permanent home at Diamond Creek. He will be turned out and rehabilitated, after which it will be decided what his next chapter will entail—whether that be as a riding horse, an equine ambassador, or simply enjoying life as a cherished pasture pet.

Allywag Hanover retires with earnings totalling $2,496,038 and a distinguished list of stakes wins, including the William Haughton Memorial, Sam McKee Memorial, Canadian Pacing Derby, Allerage, TVG/Fanduel, Potomac, and the Hoosier Park Pacing Derby.
