Armycaptin Hanover secures a position at the forefront of the Preferred race
Armycaptin Hanover established a new lifetime best time during a competitive showdown among harness racing elites at Fraser Downs, clinching the victory in the Open category on Friday, March 22nd.
Armycaptin Hanover initially fell back to fourth position and held that position steadily through the initial half-mile fractions timed at :27.1 and :56.3. Then, under the guidance of Allan Molloy, a move was made on the outside as they approached the third turn. Armycaptin Hanover steadily closed the gap on Sunshine Boy, who had secured victory in the Preferred category four times this season, along the backstretch and through three-quarters timed at 1:23.3.
As they entered the stretch, Sunshine Boy held a lead of a length and a half, yet Armycaptain Hanover relentlessly closed the gap along the lane, ultimately surging past his competitor by a half-length to secure victory in a time of 1:51.3. Sunshine Boy settled for a clear second position, while Joe Rich, guided by Brad Watt, finished third.
Armycaptin Hanover achieved a new career milestone with a clocking of 1:51.3, marking a personal best for the 41-time winner. Acquired by Rod Therres just three starts ago, the gelding has been under his training regime, securing a Preferred victory and a show finish at the same level before Friday's triumphant race. Despite being eight years old, Armycaptin Hanover has gained an impressive $308,801 in earnings throughout 145 lifetime starts.
Elsewhere on the card, Diva Amour, sired by Custard The Dragon and trained by Kelly Hoerdt, extended her winning streak to five races. Taking command in the second quarter, the mare held onto her lead to the finish line, crossing it in 1:56.3. Hoerdt, who also co-owns the four-year-old with Fred Gilbert, has been instrumental in her training. Diva Amour's victory adds to her impressive record of eight wins out of 37 starts, with total career earnings now amounting to $51,685.
The upcoming card at Fraser Downs is scheduled for Thursday, March 28th.
