At the ripe age of five, Lammas was acquired in England and was already a pleasant import for his owners, Ron Charles and Samuel Gordon. On April 27, the seven-year-old gelding made his largest profit to date when he won the $177,700 San Francisco Mile Stakes (G3T) at Golden Gate Fields.
With a field of eleven, the one-mile turf event for three-year-olds and older may be the last graded stakes race ever held at Golden Gate, which is set to close following the end of its current meeting on June 9.
Lammas was bought by Charles and Gordon at the 2022 Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-Up and Horses In Training Sale for $55,327. Lammas has made a new home over the turf and synthetic track in Northern California after being placed with trainer Manuel Badilla. He had won seven times in eighteen tries in America, including the 2022 Berkeley Handicap (G3) and the 2023 Sam Spear Memorial Stakes, both held at Golden Gate. His most recent victory came in the San Francisco Mile.
The winners of this race last year, Southern California shippers Air Force Red and Balnikhov, were defeated by Lammas by a head and a half length. Lammas won for $21.60 in total.
Lammas finished in 1:34.30 on the solid turf. His career record was improved to 10 victories from 30 starts with $342,618 in earnings.
Lammas is an American girl, descended from the Speightstown mare Spate Rise by Heeraat. His third dam, the stakes-placed mare Add, is a half-sister to Grade 3 winners Chequer and Numerous as well as 1989 Gran Criterium (G1) winner and successful Japanese sire Jade Robbery.
