On Monday, April 29, Patriarch Hanover won the $32,000 Preferred 2 Trot, the feature event on the 10-race Woodbine Mohawk Park schedule. Hanover came out on top of a blanket finish at 9-1.
From post five, patriarch Hanover and driver Doug McNair moved quickly to the lead, only to be passed by Looks Like Moni and James MacDonald during a fast first quarter of :27. Patriarch Hanover kept an eye on Perfetto (Dagfin Henrikson) from his pocket as he surged to the lead after a half-minute of :55.4. Perfetto was in the lead going into the bend, and the 3-5 favourite Southwind Coors (Chris Christoforou) didn't let up. The trotters raced through the rain to reach the three-quarter mark in a scorching 1:23.4. With two lengths remaining to get up to the rival leaders at the top of the lane, patriarch Hanover and McNair discovered a hole and tipped to the outside third-over on the turn. As the trotters mobbed the weary leaders, Patriarch Hanover emerged victorious in a wild race to the finish, capping a :27.4 deep stretch rally. In 1:52.1, Patriarch Hanover made his first wire-touch, staying a neck ahead of a closing Franks Angel and Bob McClure. Moni appears to have taken third place.
One of two victories on the night for McNair, the Preferred victory was the second straight and fourth of the season for Patriarch Hanover through 15 seasonal outings. Under the guidance of Richard Moreau, the seven-year-old son of Father Patrick-Personal Style has amassed 25 lifetime victories and $832,971 in career earnings for owner Brad Grant.
