Baffert is trying to win in Los Alamitos Derby

Bob Baffert is aiming for his eighth consecutive win in the $100,000 Los Alamitos Derby on Saturday with two entries, Wynstock and Cornell. The race is restricted to 3-year-olds and will be run at 1 1/8 miles, marking the 11th time it has been held at Los Alamitos.

Wynstock, a son of Solomini, will be looking to repeat his upset win in the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity last December. He has had mixed results in his 2024 outings but has accumulated earnings of $183,740 with two wins in seven starts. Cornell, on the other hand, will be making his local debut after finishing third in the Affirmed Stakes in Arcadia. He has won once in four starts and has earnings of $59,300.

Tapalo, trained by John Sadler, will be looking to continue his success after winning the Lazaro S. Barrera last month. The Tapiture ridgling has two wins in seven starts and has earned $137,020. Curlin's Kaos, trained by Antonio Garcia, will be switching to dirt after a couple of turf appearances. The Clubhouse Ride gelding has two wins in eight races and earnings of $161,020.

Kamaina Cruiser, a maiden winner at Golden Gate Fields, will be returning to Southern California for trainer O.J. Jauregui. The Catalina Cruiser colt has one win in three starts and earnings of $15,850. He will be looking to improve upon his previous performances in the Los Alamitos Derby.
