Canadians Shine at Del Mar Breeders’ Cup
Trainer Kevin Attard, recently celebrating an impressive 8-win week at Woodbine, heads to Del Mar to lead the Canadian-bred champion Moira and American-owned Full Count Felicia in the $2 million Filly & Mare Turf on November 2. Moira, named Canadian Horse of the Year, is set for a poignant farewell for X-Men Racing, SF Bloodstock, and Madaket Stables, having raced with them since her debut win in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes. This season, she captured her first U.S. graded stakes race, the Grade 2 Beverly D., and is determined to improve upon her past Breeders' Cup performances.
Flavian Prat will ride Moira for the 1 3/8-mile race, a distance that suits her well. Following Del Mar, she will migrate to Kentucky for the November Sale at Fasig-Tipton. On her side, Full Count Felicia, who previously defeated Moira in the E.P. Taylor Stakes, aims to showcase her front-running prowess in her first attempt at this longer distance.
Another notable entrant is Seize the Grey, a talented three-year-old whose ownership group includes numerous Canadians. Following a standout season that included a victory in the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes, he is slated to compete in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Mile. With a modest investment through MyRacehorse.com, fans from Canada are eagerly cheering for him.
Additionally, Woodbine’s leading trainer Mark Casse sends several promising contenders, including the juvenile filly La Cara, seeking to enhance his Breeders’ Cup success.
