Captain Albano Set for Racing Return at Four in 2025
Trainer Noel Daley received an unexpected bonus as standout pacer Captain Albano will return to race as a four-year-old in 2025. Originally slated for stud duty at New York’s Blue Chip Farms, the horse's breeding plans were altered due to unforeseen fertility issues revealed during testing.
Captain Albano, a son of Captaintreacherous and Angelou, has already amassed a stellar career. After earning $445,680 and securing a Dan Patch Award as a two-year-old, his three-year-old season brought 12 wins from 18 starts, including victories in marquee events like the Little Brown Jug and Delvin Miller Adios. His total career earnings stand at $1,981,956 from 27 starts.
Daley, speaking from Australia, where he is spending the holidays, expressed optimism about Captain Albano’s future. Though further testing in January may determine his eligibility for stud, the plan is to continue racing him regardless. If breeding becomes an option, Daley noted the possibility of a limited book while the horse competes.
Reflecting on Captain Albano’s return, Daley highlighted the horse’s consistency throughout the season, describing him as "easy to deal with." He plans to resume light training in January while mapping out a stakes schedule.
Jokingly, Daley attributed the change in plans to a remark he made after Captain Albano’s supposed final race in the Progress Pace. "I said I wouldn’t mind racing him again," he quipped, acknowledging his excitement with the unexpected opportunity.
