Century Lunar triumphed at Grand River Raceway

On Wednesday, Aug. 7, Century Lunar set a new career best in one of three $8,000 Prospect Series divisions for 2-year-old pacing fillies at Grand River Raceway. 

Louis-Philippe Roy drove Century Lunar from post six, initially settling in fourth through a :27.2 quarter and a :57.1 half. After the halfway point, Roy moved the Eric Nadeau trainee first over, advancing to second place at the three-quarters in 1:26. In the stretch, Century Lunar found clear sailing and finished strong to win by 2½ lengths in a career-best 1:55.4. Brittas Best Bet (Philippe Hudon) was second, while Century Liberty (Austin Sorrie) finished third after leading early.

Owned by French Connection Racing, Louis-Philippe Roy, and Gaston Bibeau, Century Lunar is a Dancin Lou - Sunshine Patriot filly. With a record of 2-1-1 and earnings of $12,920 in four starts, she was the 1-2 favourite.

In the first Prospect Series division, Greystone Playgirl ($22.80) earned her maiden victory with trainer Steven Hudon driving. The Shadow Play - Greystone Ladylike filly won by 1½ lengths in 1:57.3 for owners Laura Toscani, Steven Hudon, Carmelo Scime, and John Henderson.

Miss Danni Song ($11.20) also celebrated a successful debut, winning by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.4 with Todd Ratchford driving for trainer Mary Ratchford. The Big Jim - Gravel filly is co-owned by breeders Ronald Ash and Mike McLaughlin.
