McNair to Represent Canada in Prestigious French Trotting Race

Standardbred Canada (SC) is proud to announce that Doug McNair has been selected to represent Canada in the 2024 Prix des Rencontres Internationales du Trotteur Français. The prestigious international trotting race will take place on Friday, November 29, at Hippodrome Paris-Vincennes in Paris, France, with drivers from 15 countries, including Canada, set to compete.

This opportunity holds special significance for McNair, as it marks his return to a race he was unable to compete in over a decade ago. In 2013, McNair was invited to defend Canada's title after Billy Davis Jr. won the event in 2012. However, a last-minute scratch prevented him from competing. Now, more than 11 years later, McNair is back, ready to represent his country on the international stage.

“Canada has had great success internationally, and this race is one where we've performed very well,” said Darryl Kaplan, SC’s President and CEO. “We are thrilled to have Doug back in France to represent Canada, both on and off the track.”

Canada has a strong history in the event, with notable performances by drivers like Billy Davis Jr., who won in 2012, Scott Zeron, who finished second in 2010, and Randy Waples, who competed in 2011.

McNair, who has had a stellar season with 244 wins and $6.5 million in purse earnings, is eager to compete. “It’s always an honour to drive for your country,” McNair said, adding humorously, “Plus, they have pretty decent wine!”

SC will provide further updates as the race approaches.
