Convoy Twenty Two's best performance at the Western Fair District

Convoy Twenty Two (Betterthancheddar) delivered a stunning last-to-first performance to win the second leg of the Autumn Series for two- and three-year-old Ontario-sired colts and geldings on Tuesday, October 22, at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.

Starting from the outside post, the gelding dropped back and trailed the seven-horse field through a brisk :28.2 opening quarter. Driver Daryl Thiessen made his move off the pylons as Roman Rocket (Anthony Haughan) took the lead, setting a half-mile pace of :57.3.

Convoy Twenty Two picked up cover passing the grandstand and advanced through three-quarters in 1:28. Heading into the final turn, Peloton Seelster (Paul Mackenzie) took the lead, but Convoy Twenty Two swung three-wide, positioning himself for a thrilling stretch battle. Peloton Seelster held the lead down the lane, but Convoy Twenty Two fought hard, pulling ahead by half a length to win in 1:59.

Peloton Seelster settled for second in a narrow finish, with Wayne Stone (Peter Core) taking third.

With this victory, Convoy Twenty Two improved to two wins in four lifetime starts, having debuted earlier this month as a three-year-old. Jack Moiseyev trains the promising pacer for owners High Stakes Inc. of Moffat and Nancy Macnevin of Essex.

The Autumn Series for pacing males wraps up with the final on October 29 at London. Racing resumes at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Friday, October 25, with the first post at 5:50 p.m. EDT.
