Dan Illman Appointed as Communications Head for TMJC
Dan Illman has been appointed as the Director of Communications for the newly established Maryland Jockey Club (TMJC). With extensive experience as a writer, analyst, correspondent, and handicapper for the Daily Racing Form, Illman is set to oversee the media relations department. His role begins as the non-profit TMJC, under the Maryland Thoroughbred Racetrack Operating Authority, takes charge of Maryland's daily racing operations starting January 1.
TMJC’s President and General Manager, Bill Knauf, expressed enthusiasm for Illman’s appointment, highlighting his expertise in media and communications. Knauf emphasised that Illman’s leadership is expected to help promote a promising future for horse racing in Maryland.
Illman shared his excitement about joining the TMJC team, describing it as an opportunity to contribute to the organisation’s vision for Maryland racing. He expressed eagerness to work closely with horsemen, industry stakeholders, and media professionals to improve racing coverage in the state. Additionally, he mentioned his commitment to creating engaging multimedia content designed to benefit and inform horseplayers, handicappers, and racing enthusiasts.
