There is a chance that the Gotham champion could commence preparations for the Wood Memorial (G2) on April 6 at the Big A.
St. Elias Stable, Ken Langone, Steven Duncker, and Vicarage Stable's unbeaten Deterministic has returned to Payson Park after an impressive debut in the Gotham Stakes (G3) on March 2 at Aqueduct Racecourse. His commanding two-length victory earned him 50 Kentucky Derby (G1) points, placing him sixth in the standings for a spot in the starting gate of the prestigious race.
"He's doing well. He's with us here at the moment at Payson. We're toying with the idea of working him the middle of next week," assistant trainer Miguel Clement said.
The son of Liam's Map overcame a slow start to win his first race, a seven-furlong sprint, in August at Saratoga Race Course. He followed it up with a strong performance in the Gotham after regularly breezing alongside Pandagate at Payson Park, including an impressive five-eighths workout in 1:01.80 on Feb. 17.
"It was a winning ingredient to work them together in the past," Clement said. "These two worked together and assisted each other. It was great that the afternoon confirmed what they were doing in the morning."
It is feasible for Deterministic to make a debut in the Wood Memorial (G2), with a prize of $750,000, on April 6 at the Big A racecourse.
