DeVaux's Breakthrough at Breeders' Cup

Cherie DeVaux heads into the Breeders’ Cup with five contenders at Del Mar on Nov. 1-2, underscoring her rapid rise in the sport. DeVaux, once an assistant to Chad Brown, leapt trainer after encouragement from bloodstock agent David Ingordo, now her husband. Her career started slowly in 2018, but she’s since built a formidable stable of 120 horses.

In her Breeders' Cup line-up, DeVaux brings Pyrenees in the Classic (G1), Cagliostro and Pipeline in the Dirt Mile (G1), More Than Looks in the Mile (G1T), and Vahva in the Filly & Mare Sprint (G1). Each has a strong chance to place, with DeVaux expressing pride in her team’s growth and determination. Pyrenees, in particular, highlights her patience, with owner Adam Corndorf crediting DeVaux for her unwavering faith in the colt, who turned a challenging start into a successful season with three wins.

DeVaux’s trajectory mirrors the successes of women like Jenine Sahadi and Maria Borell, who previously broke barriers at the Breeders’ Cup. She’s now in her strongest year yet, with over $8 million in earnings and notable wins, including leading trainer at the Preakness Stakes. As her horses prepare for Del Mar, DeVaux hopes not only for wins but also to inspire as a role model, exemplifying integrity and excellence in racing.
