Diverse Victors Shine as 2024 Season Nears Conclusion

In a reflection on the recent happenings at Woodbine, it was noted that 25 different trainers achieved victories across 35 races last week, as the 2024 racing season approaches its conclusion on Sunday, December 15. With only four racing days remaining, many prominent stables, including those of Martin Drexler, Mark Casse, and Bill Tharrenos, had already relocated their horses southward.

The current environment at Woodbine has provided ample opportunities for smaller stables, as evidenced by the diverse range of victors. Notable trainers such as Mike DePaulo, Kevin Attard, Norm McKnight, Paul Buttigieg, and Sid Attard secured multiple wins. In the jockey ranks, Rafael Hernandez emerged as a standout, claiming eight victories, while Keveh Nicholls triumphed four times, Sahin Civaci secured six wins, and Austin Adams also noted four.

Additionally, it was reported that trainer Kerron Palmer celebrated a milestone by securing his first career victory with the gelding Avoman, who won a claiming event for owner Bruno Schickedanz. In a related highlight, Hannah Sprenger marked her debut training win with Lilz Hope, who excelled in her third outing.

Lastly, a noteworthy event unfolded when longshot Mohaymen Diamond, a two-year-old colt owned and trained by Chetram Mohabir, triumphed in a maiden allowance race, marking an impressive win at 29-to-1, showcasing the unpredictable nature of horse racing. The upcoming weekend also promises excitement, with two stakes races scheduled.
